Presented here is a very remarkable 18 K Gold pendant, dating back to the 1930’s, with rare and unusual features as follows :
a) It has measurements of 18 x 25 mm ( without bail )
b) Its weight is 3.3 grams
c) It is made using the “Plique-à-jour” technique : Plique-à-jour (French for “letting in daylight”) is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel.
d) The pendant is high relief and made in France.
e) It is stamped with an eagle’s head which is the French hallmark for 18K Gold.
f) On the reverse, it is monogrammed with the letters AC
g) It is signed DROPSY. The engraver Henri Dropsy ( 1885 -1969) is one of the best known French engraver and medalist. He won in 1921 the Gold Medal of the French Artists’ salon. In 1928 he was made Knight of the Honorary Legion – the most prestigious merit French medal and in 1942 he was made a member of the French Academy of art to reward him of his professional and teaching career.
It is estimated that this medal was engraved in the 1930’s.
With many colors of enamels it is a great piece of art.
