18 K Gold Plique-à-Jour Pendant Medal of Virgin Mary In Dieppe Work With Pearls & Monogram Pristine from 1923 - Very rare
Presented here is a very sweet 18 carat Solid Gold pendant medal of the Virgin Mary in Dieppe work of noble material , dating back to the 1923, with rare and unique features as follows :
a) It is round with a diameter of 28 mm ( without bail ). The Dieppe work of noble material is a rare feature on such medals.
b) Its weight is a heavy 4.90 grams . It is in Pristine condition.
c) It is made using the “Plique-à-jour” technique : Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. All intact plique-à-jour medals are very rare today.
d) The pendant is high relief and made in France.
e) There is a monogram on the reverse: C.S. and a date : 22 May 1923 as may be seen from the photo.
The chain in the picture is NOT gold but Gold plated. It is also vintage but of a later period than the medal. It is included as a gift in the offer.
Pictures have been taken so that the beautiful Plique-à-jour effect is well seen.
This rare item is very sweet and highly attractive and extremely well done. In an exceptional as new condition it is definitely a unique heirloom.
