DD 1918 Highly Exceptional 18 K Gold Plique-à-Jour Virgin Mary Medal 19.07 Grams High Relief Largest and Heaviest on the Net

Presented here is an extremely rare 18 carat Solid Gold Large and Heavy pendant medal of the Virgin Mary in Blue enamel Plique-à-jour.
In fact its 19.07 gram weight makes it the largest and heaviest such medal presented on the Internet. A great rarity.

a) It is oval with 56 mm ( 2,25 in.) in length and 30 mm in width ( 1.2 in.) as shown in the picture.

b) The enamel is blue and light violet as may be seen on the close up of the pictures against light.

c) Its weight is exceptional and is is a never seen 19.07 grams of solid 18 carat gold. It is hallmarked with the French hallmark for 18 K Gold : the Eagle's head. It is in Pristine condition. Internet research hows that this is the heaviest and largest such medal available. A unique and superb item !

d) It is made using the “Plique-à-jour” technique : Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. All intact plique-à-jour medals are very rare today. This medal has an extra rare and very fine aspect : the tiny - but very neat - gold stars on the enamel. This indicates a very high quality of craftsmanship

e) The pendant is high relief and made in France. It bears a signature in form of initials.

f) On the resverse the medal is inscribed with : " Bonne Fete" 19 Mars 1918 ( it was a Tuesday) and bears 4 names, as in the picture. This is very probably a medal which was presented to
someone for his name day or Anniversary - but definitely not Birthday as in French Birthday is Anniversaire not Fete.

The chain in the picture is NOT gold but Gold plated and is new . It is 54 cm long ( 20 in.). It is included as a gift in the offer.
